Tin Can API (a.k.a. Experience API)

The Tin Can API (formally, the Experience API) is a new e-learning standard that will replace SCORM. While SCORM is all about tracking the status of big and chunky e-learning modules, Tin Can recognises that most learning actually happens away from the LMS in multiple systems and locations. Tin Can provides a way of bringing all of this activity data together into an activity stream.
Learning activities tracked by Tin Can can be offline or online, tutor-led or collaborative, real-world or virtual. It doesn’t matter where the activity takes place; what matters is that a system with knowledge of that activity can send a simple statement to a Learner Record Store (LRS) containing basic details of what the learner did.
